Team Leader

The Y is looking for experienced outdoor education instructors who are ready to take the lead!

Wainui Park, set on the beautiful Banks Peninsula is a residential outdoor centre that caters for schools, community and corporate groups. We love sharing the outdoors with our clients and giving them an experience they will never forget!

We spend out time kayaking on Akaroa Harbour, swinging from our Giant Swing, developing teamwork and trust through our high ropes and taking on new challenges through Coasteering!
Our instructional team is made up of Interns, all who share a passion for the outdoors and are keen to learn at every opportunity. The role of Team leader involves:

  • Setting an example to and leading our instructional team
  • Assisting with staff training and development
  • Delivery of outdoor activities
  • Equipment inspections
  • Developing a strong staff culture that promotes the Y’s values

Y Wainui Park is looking for a Camp Cook who is passionate about providing quality meals to our wide and diverse client groups, including school, community and corporates.

We are always looking for passionate, outgoing and reliable individuals to supervise our busy school holiday programmes!

We need supervisors that are at least 20 years of age, have a current First Aid Certificate, and have a good understanding and experience of working with young people.

We currently run active, creative, performing and general programmes, which you will help create, plan and develop.

This is full time work while school holidays are running, with up to 6 hours of additional paid training prior to the programme starting.

Holiday Programme Volunteers


Working on a holiday programme is a fantastic way to develop leadership skills and gain experience working with people. Holiday programmes are a huge amount of fun and a very valuable way to give back to the community and gain invaluable skills. Each school holiday period the Y runs up to 8 different programmes all over Christchurch City!

As a volunteer leader you will work as part of a team, alongside and experienced supervisor, to run the programme. You can expect to get involved wi the kids, manage your group and the behaviours, role model a positive attitude and have a great experience!

Some of the activities you may be involved in are: movies, tenpin bowling, mini-golf, swimming, Antarctic Centre, sports, art & crafts, outdoor adventure days, indoor climbing and the list goes on! You will be required between the hours of 8:30am to 5pm, and must be 15yrs or over.
