Want to make a difference and have the experience of a lifetime?

Y Wainui Park has been providing camps for children from Canterbury and surrounding regions for over 80 years. We provide outdoor education experiences for thousands every year. To this day, Wainui Park holds a special place in the hearts of many generations of Cantabrians. Now is your chance to contribute to this centre as an Outdoor Instructor Intern!

At Wainui Park we foster a culture that aims to enhance and build:

  • Leadership development
  • International Y relationships
  • Development of the skills and abilities of young people
  • Co-operation, fun, learning
  • Environmental and Outdoor Education

Consequently we employ on a seasonal basis a crew of intern outdoor instructors. These staff are over 21 years of age and ideally commit to our nine month season which runs from late August to late May.

Interns come from NZ, Australia, England, Canada, USA, Europe and a variety of other countries – bringing with them their own experiences, culture, values and skills. All of this makes Wainui Park a dynamic and ever-growing place to live and work.
Those who are committed for the season live on site in shared accommodation, and receive many great benefits including a weekly allowance, training, internet access, vehicle access and a ready-made group of like minded friends! We also run three organised and funded social trips each year – in the 2022/23 season these are:

Wainui 11

  • August – 3 days tramping at Mt Somers, cass Lagoon and Mueller Hut
  • December – 4 days Abel Tasman sea kayaking journey
  • May – 5 days end of season trip decided on by staff!
2022/23 Season starts on 8 August 2022 and ends on 26 May 2023
