How we will keep Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults Safe

Safety Checking
All applicants for positions at YMCA Christchurch must go through a comprehensive screening process that adheres to the Children’s Act 2014.

Training Staff and Induction
Appropriate training and induction practices are used to further the knowledge and awareness of YMCA staff.
 

Child Safe Practices
YMCA staff will adhere to industry best practice when working with children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Identification of and response to Suspicions of Abuse or Neglect of a Child or Vulnerable Adult
All cases of suspected abuse will be responded to in a manner which best ensures the child’s or vulnerable adult’s immediate and future safety.

Response to Allegations of Abuse against a YMCA Staff Member
The safety of the child is the YMCA’s primary consideration and appropriate and comprehensive processes exist for the possibility of abuse by a YMCA staff member.

Confidentiality and Information Sharing
The way in which information relating to vulnerable children and young people is gathered and shared by YMCA Christchurch adheres to the Privacy Act 1993, and the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989.
